User field quotas in SurveyMR 2.0

Adding a quota allows you to add a limit to the number of responses to a particular question in your survey. Quotas can be based on a previous answer a user has given, whether they are an external/internal participant, or in this case, user fields.

How to add a quota node

To add a quota node, first drag in a ‘User Field Quota’ node from the quota logic menu and drop this on the canvas before the question you want to limit responses to.

Important note:

  • Quotas need to be added when your survey is in upcoming and cannot be added to a live survey.
  • You can use user field quota logic on data included as an additional column in an external sample uploaded to a survey in a CSV file – follow our guide here on using CSV samples.

Setting the quota

Click the edit icon in the corner of the quota logic box and select the user field on which you wish to base this quota.

Important note:

  • Quotas can only be set on user fields which are set up as a ‘preselected list’ type.

Once your user field is selected you will be able to set a quota for each option. Should you not require any completes for a certain option you can select 0 and all users who have data matching this will count as over quota. Alternatively, if you don’t want to limit the responses for an option then just set the quota higher than the number of responses you might reasonably expect your survey to achieve – for example if you are sending the survey out to 5,000 participants you could set the un-required quota to 10,000.

Use the ‘Missing values treated as’ option to specify how the quota logic should deal with any users who don’t have data recorded in the user field. Once your quotas are set, you can then link the out ports of your quota logic box to the appropriate exit or follow-on question/s.

Important note:

  • Quotas amounts can be adjusted once your survey is live should you need to increase or decrease the number.
