How to create video montages in VideoMR

Montages are a great way to combine video clips from multiple video sources with slides, offering clear visual cues and organised content

To create a new montage from clips within your video library, first go to the Backroom of your InsightHub then open up the ‘Analysis Tools’ menu on the left-hand side of the screen and then select ‘VideoMR’.

You will see two tabs – one for the Video Library, and one for Montages. Click into the Montages tab, and select the button in the top right-hand corner of the page labelled ‘+ Create Montage’.

You will be prompted to set a name for your video montage. Once you have saved this, your video montage template will appear on screen. Click the title of your montage to open the montage screen, and then scroll down the page to click the ‘Add to montage’ button.

You can search for clips by title, or scroll through all the clips in your library. Simply click on each clip that you wish to include and it will be added to your montage.

When you close the ‘Add clips’ pop-up box, you can review the clips and change the order they will show in by dragging them to another position in the row. You can also delete clips from here.

Click the ‘Update Preview’ button in the centre of the page to watch a preview of your montage.

Adding images / slides to your montage

In addition to video clips, you can also add images to your montage to act as break slides or to give context for any stimuli used during the InterviewMR session.

To add images, you can select the ‘Add to montage’ button and select ‘Add slide’, you can then upload images in JPEG, JPG and PNG format.

Once clicked you will be presented with the slide editor allowing you to upload your image, assign a title to the image as well as set the duration for which this shows in your montage.

Saving and sharing your Montage

Once you are happy with the clips and slides that you have added, there is a button to save the montage in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

Your montage is then ready to share. To share your montage, return to the Montage tab, select the ‘actions’ button on the right-hand side of the page to ‘configure sharing’ and get a sharing link which can be copied and shared openly. This link can be shared with anyone you wish, for example, stakeholders. An InsightHub account is not required to access it.

The sharing link can be disabled at any time via the toggle button, and the link will also be updated in real time with any edits you make to the montage.
