How do export data from SurveyMR for SPSS or Triple-S

You can export files to use in SPSS, or files in a Triple-S format to use in other analysis software.

SPSS Export

To do this, click on ‘download SPSS’ from within the actions drop-down; this produces a zipped folder, select ‘save file’ and save this folder on your computer or network; then extract the files (make a note of where the files are saved).

The folder has 2 files in it: a SPS file (which is the SPSS syntax) and a TXT file (which is a tab separated file containing the survey results).

In SPSS, click on ‘File’, ‘Open’ then ‘Open Syntax', in SPSS’ syntax view add in the file path of the txt file between ‘GET TRANSLATE FILE=' and the file name of the survey data (this is so that SPSS knows where to find the results to load into SPSS), this might look something like “C:\My Document\Annette-S\Research\049_Christmas-shopping-survey.txt” or, in the example below, “F:\Current Projects\Christmas\049_Christmas-shopping-survey.txt”.

An example is shown in below and the file path which has been added is shown in the red box.
NB: If you want help finding the full file path, right click on the folder in which your files are saved, then click on ‘Properties’ and copy the location.
SPSS
You are now ready to run the syntax in SPSS. This will label all the questions and answer options in your SPSS data file and import your data into SPSS.

Triple-S Export

To do this, click on ‘download T-SSS’ from within the actions drop-down; this produces a zipped folder, select ‘save file’ and save this folder on your computer or network; then extract the files (make a note of where the files are saved).

The folder has 2 files in it: a text file (in excel format which has the data saved in it) and a T-SSS file.

Click on the T-SSS file and then the data will open in your chosen analysis software.
